In the next several messages I am going to provide you with the basics of starting a web business.

The very first step in starting your new web business is to decide what you are going to provide. Are you going to sell a product or products? If so, what is it? Where will it come from? Will you sell a service? Maybe you have in mind a membership site in which you will sell memberships to a club. These are all valid questions that must be addressed. In reality you could sell anything you like on the internet. For the purpose of this exorcize I will use the example of selling an E-product. What is an E-product? It is an electronic book, report, article or a software program packaged and sold through a web page or even on sites such as ebay. Whether you are selling a product or service, the process is much the same.

Let's take this time to look at an overview of starting an e-business.

1. Decide on a product or service
2. Design, write, compile, and package or purchase the product
3. Design a site
4. Publish your site
5. Promote your site
6. Make the sale

Those are the rudimentary steps involved. Each step has many sub-steps that must be taken. During our discussion we will address all of them.

Let's get back to our example and say that you have decided on an e-book that you will write yourself. I am not going to cover writing technique’s here. I do want to address the mechanics of producing an e-book though. You have some choices to make here. What format are you going to produce your e-book in?
